The riddle evokes Babylon’s king carrying off Jerusalem’s royal house from Lebanon-like Judah, the land of Canaan, after Babylon’s conquest. Egypt, south of Canaan, later represents the foreign power to which Judah’s king sought help rather than remaining subject to Babylon under God’s judgment.
