Tyre was a wealthy Phoenician port city on the Mediterranean coast, north of Jerusalem, while Jerusalem was Judah’s capital, recently devastated by Babylon. In this oracle, Tyre rejoices over Jerusalem’s fall, expecting commercial advantage, and so becomes the object of God’s judgment.
