Ahava was a gathering place in Babylonia, likely near a canal, where Ezra assembled returning exiles before their journey to Jerusalem. Casiphia was a nearby settlement or district from which he sought Levites and temple servants, while “Beyond the River” denotes the Persian province west of the Euphrates, including Jerusalem.
