[2] I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you, and make your name great. You will be a blessing. [3] I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. In you will all of the families of the earth be blessed."

Haran was Abram’s departure point in upper Mesopotamia; he entered Canaan, traveling through Shechem near Moreh, between Bethel and Ai, and toward the Negeb before later going to Egypt. These places mark his arrival in the promised land, where God’s blessing to Abram would extend to all peoples.
