After leaving Egypt, Abram traveled north through the Negeb and Canaan to the Bethel-Ai area, where he had earlier built an altar and called on the Lord. The Jordan Valley and Hebron belong to the wider land later associated with Abram’s settlement and God’s covenant promise.
