It came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father. Let us make him drink wine again, tonight. You go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve our father's seed."

The Jordan Valley was the fertile region where Sodom and Gomorrah had stood, and its destruction forms the immediate setting for Lot and his daughters’ isolation. Ammon, east of the Jordan, was later associated with the descendants of Lot’s younger daughter, whose conception is described in this episode.
