Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants' standard.

Hebron, in Canaan, was the region where Abraham lived near Mamre; Machpelah was a nearby field and cave owned by Ephron the Hittite. Abraham’s payment for it secured a lawful burial place for Sarah, marking his first permanent landholding in the promised land.
