Mesopotamia, especially the region around Nahor in Aram, was Abraham’s ancestral homeland, where his kin remained; Abraham therefore directs his servant there to seek a wife for Isaac rather than among the Canaanites. The Negeb was the dry southern land of Canaan where Abraham and Isaac’s household lived, underscoring Isaac’s continued connection to the promised land.
