“Haran” was a city in upper Mesopotamia, likely in the region of modern southeastern Turkey, where Abraham’s relatives had settled. Jacob had come from the land of Canaan to this eastern homeland of his mother’s family, so Laban’s recognition of him as “my bone and my flesh” confirms their kinship.
