Seir, the mountainous homeland of Esau in Edom southeast of Canaan, was where he returned after parting from Jacob. Jacob, coming from Paddan-aram, instead traveled west into Canaan, settling temporarily at Succoth before reaching Shechem, highlighting the brothers’ peaceful separation and Jacob’s return to the promised land.
