In Jacob’s return to Canaan, Bethel (formerly Luz) marks renewed worship after Paddan-aram, while Allon-bacuth recalls Deborah’s death nearby. Rachel dies near Ephrath/Bethlehem and is buried there; Jacob then travels toward Eder and Hebron/Mamre, while Shechem remains the earlier setting of family crisis.
