Jacob sends Joseph from the Valley of Hebron in Canaan to check on his brothers near Shechem; after learning they have moved to Dothan, Joseph finds them there. Dothan’s position on a route toward Gilead and Egypt foreshadows the caravan that will carry Joseph into Egypt.
