Dothan, in Canaan north of Shechem and the Valley of Hebron, is where Joseph’s brothers sold him to traders from Gilead bound for Egypt. These places trace the movement by which Joseph was removed from his father Jacob’s household, advancing God’s providential purpose despite his brothers’ sin.
