Egypt was the land ruled by Pharaoh, where Joseph had been taken as a slave and imprisoned after serving in Potiphar’s household. Its royal court and prison system form the setting in which Pharaoh’s officials are confined with Joseph, preparing for God’s providential elevation of him.
