Egypt, centered on the Nile’s fertile floodplain, was vulnerable to the seven years of famine Joseph foretold; storing grain there would preserve the population. Heliopolis, a major Egyptian religious and administrative center near the Nile delta, reflects the setting in which Pharaoh’s court implemented this providential plan.
