Egypt was the land where Joseph rose to authority under Pharaoh; Heliopolis was likely the Egyptian center associated with Joseph’s father-in-law, and the Nile sustained Egypt’s agriculture. Against this setting of prosperity and foreign power, Joseph names Ephraim because God made him fruitful despite his earlier affliction.
