Canaan was the homeland of Jacob’s family, where Benjamin and the other brothers had lived before famine drove them to seek grain in Egypt. Egypt, ruled by Joseph though his brothers did not recognize him, is the setting where Joseph sees Benjamin and God’s providential family reunion advances.
