Canaan was the land where Jacob’s family lived, the land promised to Abraham’s descendants; Egypt was the kingdom where Joseph had risen to power. Goshen, a fertile region of Egypt, would become the place Joseph prepared for his family, making their reunion and preservation during famine possible.
