Egypt was the kingdom where Joseph had risen to power and where Pharaoh welcomed his family; Canaan was the land where Jacob’s household still lived. Goshen, a fertile region within Egypt, would become the place Pharaoh offered them, enabling Joseph’s family to survive the famine under God’s providence.
