Canaan was the land where Jacob’s family lived, while Egypt was the powerful kingdom to which Joseph had been brought and where God had raised him to authority. Goshen, in Egypt, would become the fertile region where Joseph settled his family during the famine, showing God’s providential preservation of the covenant household.
