Joseph placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

Canaan was the land from which Jacob’s family came, while Egypt was the kingdom where Joseph had risen to authority. Within Egypt, Joseph settled his family in Goshen, in the region of Rameses, providing them fertile land and security during the famine.
