Jezreel was a city in the fertile valley of northern Israel, between the hills of Galilee and Samaria. Its name evokes the Valley of Jezreel, where Jehu’s bloody overthrow of Ahab’s house occurred; Hosea’s son thus signaled coming judgment on Israel’s ruling dynasty.
