Egypt recalls Israel’s former bondage and the exodus, while Jezreel in northern Israel evokes both judgment on the house of Jehu and God’s promise to restore his people. The Valley of Achor, near Jericho, where Achan’s sin brought trouble, becomes a “door of hope” as God reverses judgment into renewed covenant blessing.
