Jerusalem was Judah’s capital, where King Zedekiah sought Jeremiah’s counsel as Babylon’s army threatened the city. Babylon, the Mesopotamian imperial capital, and the Chaldeans, its ruling people and forces, were God’s appointed instruments of judgment against Judah’s rebellion.
