Jeremiah 35:10

but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

Babylon, in the land of Chaldea (southern Mesopotamia, modern Iraq), was the imperial power whose armies threatened Judah; Jerusalem was Judah’s capital. Jeremiah 35:10 explains that the Rechabites had left their nomadic way of life and settled near Jerusalem because the Babylonian and Aramean invasions made the countryside unsafe.
