The Kidron Valley lay east of Jerusalem, where Jesus had crossed with his disciples to a garden before the arrest; it frames the scene as the authorities come out to seize him. Nazareth was Jesus’ Galilean hometown, and “Jesus the Nazarene” identifies the one who freely confronts them.
