Capernaum was Jesus’ Galilean base of ministry, on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee. John identifies the lake also as the Sea of Tiberias, its later Roman name, setting Jesus’ crossing and the crowd’s pursuit before the feeding miracle.
