Capernaum, on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, was the setting for Jesus’ synagogue teaching after crowds arrived by boats, including some from nearby Tiberias. Their familiarity with Jesus’ earthly family there helps explain their objection to his claim of having come down from heaven.
