Bible Text

[53] Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves. [54] He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. [55] For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. [56] He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.

Capernaum, on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, was Jesus’ Galilean ministry base and the setting of this synagogue discourse following the feeding of the five thousand. Tiberias, a nearby lakeside city, helps locate the crowds’ movements around the sea as Jesus teaches that true life comes through faith-union with him.
