At Gilgal in Canaan, west of the Jordan, Joshua formally grants Hebron to Caleb, fulfilling the promise made after their earlier mission from Kadesh-barnea. Hebron’s hill country became Caleb’s inheritance because he had faithfully followed the Lord when Israel first approached the land.
