Behold, I have allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun.

The Great Sea is the Mediterranean, forming Israel’s western boundary, while the Jordan River marked its eastern frontier. Joshua cites these limits to remind Israel that God had allotted them the land and that remaining Canaanite nations within it were still to be removed.
