Israel ate the produce of Canaan at Gilgal, near Jericho, after crossing the Jordan, marking their arrival in the promised land after the exodus from Egypt. Gibeath-haaraloth recalls the covenant circumcision performed there; the Great Sea lay westward beyond Canaan.
