But Rahab the prostitute, and her father's household, and all that she had, did Joshua save alive; and she lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Jericho was a fortified Canaanite city west of the Jordan near its northern end, the first major city Israel encountered in the conquest. Its destruction highlights God’s judgment, while Rahab’s preservation within it shows mercy to one who trusted the Lord and aided Israel’s spies.
