Timnah was a Philistine-controlled town in the Shephelah, near Samson’s home territory, where he sought a Philistine wife and posed his wedding riddle. Ashkelon, a major Philistine coastal city, became significant when Samson later killed thirty Philistines there to obtain garments for the riddle’s wager.
