Timnah was a town in the Shephelah, near Israel’s border with Philistine territory, where Samson saw the Philistine woman he wished to marry. Ashkelon, a major Philistine coastal city farther southwest, later becomes the site where Samson struck down Philistines to obtain garments connected with his riddle.
