Gaza was a major Philistine city where Samson died after destroying Dagon’s temple; Hebron, in Judah’s hill country, lay about forty miles away, where his family buried him. The Valley of Sorek, between Philistine and Israelite territory, included Samson’s home area near Zorah and frames his conflicted calling against the Philistines.
