Edom was the land southeast of Judah, traditionally associated with Esau’s descendants; Zion and Jerusalem refer to Judah’s covenant capital, devastated by Babylon. Lamentations warns Edom, apparently rejoicing over Jerusalem’s fall, that God’s judgment will also expose and punish its sin.
