Egypt, located northeast of Israel along the Nile, was the land from which God had delivered Israel in the exodus. Though not named in this verse, Egypt forms the background for the covenant relationship: the God who redeemed Israel promises seasonal rain and fruitful harvests if they walk in his statutes.
