Jesus approached Jerusalem from the east after traveling from Jericho, coming near Bethphage and Bethany on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives. These villages and the mount form the immediate setting for His deliberate entry into Jerusalem, where He publicly presents Himself as the promised King.
