Jesus’ approach to Jerusalem came from the east, through the Bethany-Bethphage area on the Mount of Olives; Jericho lay farther east on the road he had traveled. As he descended toward Jerusalem, the disciples praised God because his entry publicly signaled the promised King’s arrival.
