Bethany and Bethphage were villages on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives, just outside Jerusalem, where Jesus approached the city before His final Passover. Their proximity frames Mark 11’s events as Jesus’ public arrival in Jerusalem, the center of Israel’s worship and the leaders’ authority.
