Gethsemane was an olive grove or estate on the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem, where Jesus withdrew with his disciples before his arrest. Bethany lay nearby on the eastern slope; Galilee and Nazareth were his northern homeland, but the immediate setting is Jerusalem during Passover.
