Nineveh was the great Assyrian city where Jonah’s preaching led Gentiles to repent, while “the South” refers to the queen of Sheba, likely from Arabia, who came to hear Solomon’s wisdom. Jesus invokes both as witnesses against those rejecting his greater revelation.
