Capernaum was a fishing town on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Galilee, where Jesus based much of his ministry. There, the temple-tax collectors question Peter, setting up Jesus’ teaching that, as God’s Son, he is free from the tax yet humbly provides it.
