Bethlehem in Judea, near Jerusalem, was Jesus’ birthplace and the site of Herod’s slaughter; Egypt was the family’s refuge, while the East marks the Magi’s distant origin. Judea and Jerusalem remained under Herod’s successor, so Joseph settled in Nazareth of Galilee; Ramah recalls Jeremiah’s lament
