Matthew 3:11-12

Galilee, Jerusalem, Judea, and the Jordan region locate John’s ministry within first-century Jewish Palestine: Judea and Jerusalem were the religious center, Galilee lay to the north, and the Jordan was the river where John baptized. Their mention frames John’s public call to repentance and his testimony that the coming Messiah would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
