Galilee was Jesus’ home region in northern Israel, from which he came to John; Judea and Jerusalem were the southern Jewish heartland where John’s ministry drew crowds. At the Jordan River, Jesus’ baptism publicly marked the beginning of his messianic ministry as the Father identified him and the Spirit descended upon him.
