Thebes (No-amon) was a major Egyptian city on the Nile, supported by Egypt, Cush (Nubia), Put/Libya, and other allies. Nahum invokes its fall to warn Nineveh, Assyria’s capital, that even a strongly defended imperial city cannot escape God’s judgment.
