Nahum recalls Thebes in Egypt, fortified by the Nile and supported by Cush, Egypt, Put (Libya), and other allies, yet conquered by Assyria. Its fall warns Nineveh, Assyria’s capital, that no river defenses, foreign strength, or political alliances can secure a city under God’s judgment.
