Egypt was the land of Israel’s former slavery, from which the Lord had delivered them by Moses. In this confrontation, Korah’s faction had accused Moses of bringing the people out of Egypt only to let them die in the wilderness, making Egypt a symbol of their distrust of God’s redemptive purpose.
